Legislative Agenda

Green Party
Policy Framework

We are focusing our legislative efforts around the following issues:  Living Wage Legislation; Universal Health Care; Electoral Reform; Public Financing of Elections; Corporate Welfare Reform; "The Sooty Six"; Nuclear Energy Danger; Sanctions against Iraq.

The Connecticut Green Party stands united with the Green Party of the United States in demanding that the Bush Administration and other governments around the world seek a non-violent solution to terrorism and the crises in the Middle East.

A short list of issue priorities for the Green Party:

  • Passing legislation that would create a living wage for all employees working for companies with State of Connecticut contracts.

  • Passing legislation banning all forms of corporate welfare, including all state subsidies and tax abatements.

  • Instant Runoff Voting/Electoral Reform. In addition to a constitutional change to get IRV, we would also introduce same day voter registration and a change in the rules on how to obtain ballot status for minor parties.

  • Establishing a new Energy Policy for Connecticut.

We will also continue to support coalitions working to pass legislation that will:

  • Clean-up or shut down the "sooty six" power plants in southern Connecticut.

  • End child poverty in Connecticut.

  • Enact public financing of elections in Connecticut.

  • Stop the Death Penalty.
